- UK and US buyers, don't miss out on your dream because of the exchange rate
- If you are a cash buyer you can potentially hedge against the exchange rate by getting a French mortgage and paying out the balance when the rate improves - on recent predictions this could save you as much as 8 percent. Look at how this can be achieved in detail by clicking here
Getting around Languedoc - Trains, Planes and Automobiles
Flight and airport information
The Languedoc is well served by international flights and airports, dotted fairly evenly throughout the region. The main airports and there websites are listed below.
NOTE: The city and local authorities around the city of Bezier are spending many millions of Euros extending the runway at Bezier airport. This is being done to facilitate the arrival of the budget airlines from Great Britain. So far there has not been an announcement about the choice of airline, but the rumor mill in Bezier says that it looks like easyjet will get the nod from the local authorities. Expect an announcement soon.
Montpellier Airport: Flybe from Birmingham, Ryanair from London Stansted and British Airways from Gatwick + Frankfurt and Basle with more than 15 airlines
Caracassones Airport: Ryanair flies from Liverpool, Shannon, Dublin, Stansted, once to twice a week.
Perpignan Airport: Flights from the UK from London Stansted serviced by Ryanair, from Southampton serviced by Flybe and BMIbaby from Manchester. From other countries and internal flights - Air France.
Toulouse Airport: Flybe from Birmingham, Jet2 from Manchester, Belfast and Leeds. Easyjet from Gatwick and Bristol and British Airways from Gatwick.
Avignon Airport: Flybe from Exeter and Southampton and Jet2 from Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford.
Nimes Airport: Ryanair from Liverpool, East Midlands, London Luton and Brussels
Rodez Airport: Once again it's the Languedoc's favourite airline, Ryanair opening up even more routes to this part of France.

Trains
If your traveling to the Languedoc from Northern Europe and would prefer to come by train, the high speed TGV from London, Paris, Lille and Brussels will take you as far as Montpellier, via Lyon. If you wish to go further south into the lanquedoc, you will need to change trains to the high speed regional link that takes you as far south as Perpignan via Beziers, Carcassone, Narbonne finally ending at Perpignan.
To book a ticket from London to Avignon, Montpellier, Perpignan or Toulouse, visit the RailEurope website. To check routes and prices on the French national railway - visit the SNCF website.
Motorways
If you would prefer to drive from Northern Europe there are three main motorway routes from the North. See map below.
Route 1, via Lyon, can get quite congested, especially in summer, as hoards of Parisians head south east to the Code d'Azure. It does, however, allow you to stop in beautiful Lyon - with its superb restaurants!
Route 2, Probably the best if your coming from the North. this is the middle route down the relatively new A75 motorway, as it
takes you into Languedoc across the stunning new Millau Bridge
(designed by Norman Foster, and the tallest in the world). If you're
interested, you can stop off at the bridge's visitors centre - which
explains how it was built. It's also the cheapest route, as the A75
motorway is still mostly free to use.
Route 3, via Toulouse, is recommended if you're driving down to the south of Languedoc - to the Carcassonne, Narbonne or Perpignan areas. Toulouse, known as the 'Pink City' because of its red brick buildings, is also a lovely place to stop for lunch or shopping or galleries.
Be warned that the A9 motorway, which runs along Languedoc's coastline, can get quite congested in summer - as it is not only carrying traffic to Languedoc's popular beach resorts, but also traffic to and from Provence and Spain.
